“I had always been inspired by the story of the great jazz guitar player, Charlie Christian. He revolutionized the guitar almost single-handedly by studying guitar with a sax player. As a result, he laid the groundwork for future greats like Wes Montgomery, who played single line melodies instead of the strumming style that guitar (& banjo) had been limited to since their introduction to jazz. In a somewhat shallow attempt to accomplish something similar, I decided to find the best drummer I could, and have him teach to play drums on saxophone.
